8 ways to get festive in Surrey

While snow may be in short supply during a typical southwest B.C. winter, Christmas spirit abounds and Surrey is sure to get everyone in the spirit!

Here’s a quick look at 6 must-visit holiday season attractions:

1. Noel Surrey with the Magic of Bright Nights – to Dec. 28 at the Cloverdale Fairgrounds

This spectacular celebration is filled with twinkling lights, festive displays and seasonal activities.

Conveniently located with ample free parking, you’ll be dazzled by millions of light displays on trees and tunnels – explore the Bright Nights light walk, browse the Christmas Market, discover magical photo spots and enjoy holiday treats by the fire pits.

2. WinterFest – to Dec. 22 at the Museum of Surrey

Step into a magical world of holiday cheer with dazzling displays, hands-on crafts and festive activities for all ages. Wander through the sparkling Christmas Tree Fest and enjoy special holiday-themed scavenger hunts.

Visit the craft fair on Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.to shop local and support talented Indigenous vendors, then get creative Dec. 14 with holiday-inspired arts and crafts with the Merry Makers from 1 to 4 p.m.

3. Bear Creek Christmas Train – to Dec. 31 at Bear Creek Park

Enjoy a magical mini-train ride through Bear Creek Park’s enchanted forest, illuminated with colourful lights and displays.

The Santa Express is a day-time train which also includes crafts, treats and a photo with Santa. Open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., ticket prices are $12.50 per person and are available for purchase on-site.

The Christmas Night Train promises holiday music and a chance to spot The Grinch! The night train will open Dec. 3 to 28. Visit Wednesday to Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m.

4. Potters Christmas Store – to Dec. 24.

Western Canada’s largest Christmas store transforms into a holiday wonderland starting each December – stroll the aisles and discover unique holiday decorations, ornaments, gifts and one-of-a-kind treasures.

The store is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Saturday to Tuesday and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Wednesday to Friday. Learn more at potters.ca and visit at 19158 48 Ave.

5. Gingerbread Village – to Dec. 7 at Central City Shopping Centre

Experience the sweetest event of the year at the Downtown Surrey BIA’s annual Gingerbread Village, inviting local businesses, schools and community groups to bring their most creative creations under this year’s ‘My Favourite Movie’ theme.

Vote for the best gingerbread house, with all proceeds going directly to the Surrey Food Bank, helping local families during the holiday season.

Adding to the excitement this year, a Food Network competition champion will join the festivities to crown this year’s ultimate Gingerbread Star.

6. Victorian Christmas at Historic Stewart Farm – Dec. 6 & 7, 13, 14, 20 & 21 at Elgin Heritage Park

Step back in time to a Victorian Christmas with heritage demonstrations, festive music, crafts and seasonal treats. At 13723 Crescent Rd.

7. Curated Christmas Markets at West Coast Gardens – Dec. 6 & 7

This locally curated artisan market features rotating vendors and delicious food trucks

Get a head stay on your holiday gift list with the help of local artists and artisans, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. At 1420 172 St, Surrey.

8. Skating at Civic Plaza – Through Feb. 16

This winter, enjoy ice skating at a new covered outdoor rink and other fun and festive activations at Surrey Civic Plaza. Skate rentals available for $5 per pair. Learn more at surrey.ca
