Discover the Peace Arch Peninsula

It doesn’t matter what kind of fun you’re after, White Rock and South Surrey have endless possibilities all year long.

From picturesque beaches and numerous public parks to family-friendly community events and fast-paced sports, this area has it all.

White Rock offers an unbeatable view of glistening sunsets above the Pacific Ocean. Located on the Semiahmoo Peninsula, visit this seaside community for picturesque walks on the White Rock promenade, fine shopping from unique stores specializing in fashion, home interior, garden, automotive, gifts and more.

Plenty of culinary experiences await, from iconic fish and chips to gourmet eats, and a relaxing time to just chill at the beach. The famous pier offers stunning views of the vast ocean. From fast-paced sports games and picturesque beaches to family-friendly community events and numerous public parks, the Peace Arch Peninsula has it all.

Facts

  • White Rock is named after a large white boulder on its beach that got its colour from shellfish-eating seabirds whose guano covered the rock.
  • Early mariners used the White Rock as a navigational aid.
  • Stroll the 2.5-kilometre-long beach promenade to enjoy the most of the seaside community
  • The Semiahmoo Peninsula has a long history of encouraging home-grown arts and entertainment.

Weather

White Rock has a moderate year-round climate with comfortable summers and cold winters. The city is further from the Coast Mountains and has fewer rainy days and less fog than Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.

Destination BC is developing a new campaign to promote hyper-local travel where residents are “tourists-in-their own hometown,” while practising the COVID-19 safety protocols as recommended by the B.C. Provincial Health Officer. Many B.C. parks are now open, and national parks were to open as of June 1.

(Check this website for current details on travel.)

Getting there

White Rock is situated in the southwest corner of the Lower Mainland. It is about an hour’s drive southeast of downtown Vancouver on Hwy 99, or a five-minute drive north of the Peace Arch border crossing. If you are coming from the east (Fraser Valley) take 16th avenue.
