Victoria’s Magnolia Hotel named Canada’s No. 1 hotel in prestigious awards

The Magnolia Hotel & Spa in downtown Victoria, B.C. has been named the No. 1 Best Hotel in Canada in the 2025 Conde Nast Traveller (UK) Readers’ Choice Awards, a prestigious annual spotlight on hotels, cruises, resorts, islands, and more.

“On behalf of our valued owners and dedicated team, I am thrilled to share this news,” said Bill Lewis, general manager of Magnolia Hotel & Spa. “We are deeply grateful to our guests from around the world for choosing Magnolia Hotel & Spa as part of their travel experiences and for taking the time to vote for us.”

The hotel scored 98.67/100 in a survey responded to by hundreds of thousands of people. Candidates had to receive a required minimum number of responses and a minimum rating to be eligible for the award. They were judged on a set of criteria relevant to their category, based on a standard five-point scale converted to a percentage.

Magnolia Hotel was the only hotel in Canada to make the list, though Conde Nast Traveller (US) Readers named Oak Bay Beach Resort and the Fairmont Empress among the Best Hotels in Western Canada.

This recognition adds to a series of international honours for Magnolia Hotel & Spa, including Travel + Leisure’s T+L 100: Best Hotels in the World list and a Michelin One Key award.

Victoria entrepreneurs Jim Duncan and Anthony Young founded the hotel in 1998, and their offspring continue on the legacy.

The Courtney Street property features 64 elegantly appointed guest rooms, some with gas fireplaces and harbour views (a four-minute walk away), restaurant The Courtney Room and Spa Magnolia.

Looking ahead, Magnolia Hotel & Spa will refresh its two diamond floors this winter in collaboration with BBA Design Consultants. The look will feature rich grey velvets, soft camel tones, warm brass accents, plush wool carpets and crisp white Frette linens.

Conde Nast Traveller (UK) readers also named Vancouver Island the No. 1 Island in North America and Tofino’s Wickaninnish Inn the No. 3 Best Resort in the World.
