Alaska, the Last Frontier, offers a mesmerizing blend of rugged landscapes, rich wildlife, and unique cultural experiences.

If you only have 48 hours to explore, this itinerary will help you maximize your time, balancing adventure and relaxation. Each day features five must-visit destinations covering food, sightseeing, hiking, athletics and relaxation.

Day 1: Exploring Anchorage

1. Breakfast at Snow City Café

Kickstart your Alaskan adventure with a hearty breakfast at Snow City Café in Anchorage. Known for their massive omelets, reindeer sausage and delicious pancakes, this café is a local favourite. Grab a hot coffee and fuel up for the day’s adventures.

2. Sightseeing at Tony Knowles Coastal Trail

After breakfast, rent a bike or take a leisurely walk along the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail. This 17.5-kilometre (11-mile) scenic route offers stunning views of the Cook Inlet, with a chance to spot moose, bald eagles and even beluga whales from the shoreline.

3. Hiking at Flattop Mountain

A short drive from downtown Anchorage, Flattop Mountain is one of the most popular hikes in the state. The moderate five-kilometre (three-mile) round-trip trail rewards you with panoramic views of the city, surrounding mountain ranges and the vast Alaskan wilderness.

4. Skiing/biking/paragliding at Alyeska Resort

For an afternoon adventure, head to Alyeska Resort in Girdwood. Depending on the season, you can hit the slopes for winter skiing or snowboarding or try mountain biking and paragliding in the summer. The resort also offers a tram ride with breathtaking alpine views.

5. Relaxation at Alyeska Nordic Spa

Wind down after an active pow day at the Alyeska Nordic Spa. Featuring hot and cold hydrotherapy pools, steam rooms and saunas nestled within a forested retreat, this is the perfect place to rejuvenate before another full day of adventure.

Day 2: A taste of the Kenai Peninsula

1. Breakfast at The Bake Shop

Start your second day with a visit to The Bake Shop in Girdwood, famous for its massive sweet rolls, sourdough pancakes and strong Alaskan coffee. This cosy spot offers a warm and welcoming start to the day.

2. Sightseeing in Seward & Alaska SeaLife Center

Drive the scenic Seward Highway to the coastal town of Seward. Visit the Alaska SeaLife Center to get up close with marine life like sea otters, puffins and harbour seals while learning about Alaskan ocean ecosystems.

3. Hiking at Exit Glacier

Just outside of Seward, Exit Glacier offers a stunning and accessible hiking experience. The short 3.3-kilometre (two-mile) round-trip hike brings you face-to-face with the rapidly receding glacier, providing an unforgettable encounter with Alaska’s raw natural beauty.

4. Kayaking on Resurrection Bay

For an exhilarating adventure, embark on a kayaking excursion in Resurrection Bay. Paddle through pristine waters, surrounded by towering mountains and glaciers, and keep an eye out for sea lions, orcas and humpback whales.

5. A relaxing dinner at The Cookery

Cap off your Alaskan getaway with a dinner at The Cookery in Seward. This intimate eatery specializes in fresh seafood and locally sourced ingredients, with a menu featuring Alaskan oysters, king crab and halibut. Pair your meal with a local craft beer or a glass of fine wine to toast your jam-packed 48-hour adventure.
