PARKS AND RECREATIONAL SERVICES ENHANCE THE LIVES OF EVERYONE, OF ALL AGES, IN HOPE CASCADES & CANYONS

Hope’s community centres are busy places where people gather to learn, play and grow, and where we pride ourselves on making them accessible to people with different abilities and capabilities. With several provincial and local parks in the area (all within 40 minutes), each one offers different and unique experiences, some of which attract visitors from all over the world.

MEMORIAL PARK

Memorial Park features Hope’s most iconic chainsaw carvings. It is a vibrant, multi-user park that forms the hub of Hope’s Downtown core. The Park has a bandstand, picnic area, playground, basketball courts, street hockey courts, tennis courts and washrooms.

JAPANESE FRIENDSHIP GARDEN

The Japanese Friendship Garden (adjacent to Memorial Park) was built in 1991 and is dedicated to the 2,600 Japanese – Canadians who were interned at Tashme (23 Kilometres east of Hope in Sunshine Valley) during the Second World War.

CENTENNIAL PARK

At the foot of Wallace Street on Water Avenue, take in the beautiful views of the Fraser River. Directly across from the park

(though inaccessible to visitors) is Welqamex Island. Archaeological discoveries on the island include a large Sto:lo Village with many pit houses. The island is also home to a blue heron nesting site.

HOPE’S (OFF-LEASH) DOG PARK

Opened in July 2018, Hope’s only off-leash dog park is located between the curling rink and Diamond #1 at Sixth Ave Sports Field. There are benches and a water spigot. Dog owners are encouraged to clean up after their pets.

HOPE SKATE PARK

Located behind the Hope Recreation Centre, the popular skateboard park is adjacent to the Hope Bike Park. It is the destination of choice for BMX riders and skateboarders alike.

KAWKAWA LAKE DAY USE AREA

One of the most popular summer spots in Hope, where you can enjoy a roped-off swimming area, picnic area, playground, change rooms, and washrooms. It is the perfect place to spend the afternoon with family. Kawkawa Lake is also home to the Annual Hope Floats Festival!

COQUIHALLA RIVER COMMUNITY PARK

Located at 805 Kawkawa Lake Road, the Coquihalla River Community Park includes the Hope Bike Park – which boasts pump tracks, dirt jumps, and other features for beginner, intermediate, and advanced riders as well as our new Disc Golf Course. The picnic tables and seating areas are a great place to take a break and sit down to enjoy a healthy lunch or for all of the parents and non-riders, this is a great place to watch all of the action.

THACKER REGIONAL PARK

Featuring bird & animal watching, biking, hiking trail, & spawning salmon. A man-made spawning channel was added to Thacker Park in 1988 and improved in 2006. e hike around the channel is an easy 1 km walk and suitable for people of all ages. For those looking for a longer walk or bike ride, carry on past the Kettle Valley Rail- way marker through to the Othello Tunnels. To access Thacker Regional Park, there is a small parking lot at 20840 Union Bar Rd., off Kawkawa Lake Road by the Coquihalla River bridge.
