Discover Rossland, BC

In the beautiful Kootenay Rockies Region of British Columbia, you’ll find Rossland, home of Red Mountain Resort and Big Red Cats, the world’s largest cat skiing operation. The latest addition of Grey Mountain at RED Mountain means they now have one of the biggest ski resorts in western Canada. Rossland offers both summer and winter attractions, as an unpretentious community which still offers a unique and authentic experience.

Rossland, at the entrance to the Kootenay Gateway, is a playground for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers both. Explore at your own pace. If you prefer peace, restfulness and quiet to adrenaline surges, go horseback riding, golfing, or enjoy a spa retreat… Definitely stop by the Rossland Museum Visitor Centre to see where the trails are, a place to stay that suits your style or some mountain adventure.

From Rossland, enjoy a daytrip to heritage-rich Nelson, take in the youthful vibe of Castlegar, see the Columbia River in Trail, the fascinating railway history of Fruitvale and outdoor adventures in Warfield.

Choose from plenty of excellent dining options in Rossland, including restaurants run by seasoned chefs from New York and LA who wanted to escape the craziness of city life and buy their produce at local organic gardens on their way to work. From sushi, to coffee houses, from pubs to fine dining, you’ll find it all.

Facts

• Broken Goat Trail Run includes challenging, 50k and 25k point-to-point, high-alpine races at RED Mountain Resort, plus a 12k vertical climb up Red Mountain Ski Hill. There’s even a Broken Goat Kids Race, a fun-filled 1k to 1.5k loop!

• KTM Adventure Rally provides riders of all skill levels the chance to ride with and learn from adventurers from all over the world. Open to all motorcycle brands over 600cc, the two-day event covers long distance touring riders to off-road riders.

• The Rossland Arts Council and Trail Arts Council have taken great care to offer everything from oil on canvas, fused glass, contemporary realist, abstract art and more. Find a one-of-a-kind piece or bring your own easel and be inspired by this amazing area.

• Interested in more theatrical pursuits? Check out the Gold Fever Follies and the Rossland Light Opera Players shows.

• Craving Pilates, spa treatments, yoga, or a yin-yang restorative acupuncture treatment? Rossland offers it all plus more!

Weather

The summers are short, warm, dry and partially cloudy while the winters are cold and snowy.

Destination BC is developing a new campaign to promote hyper-local travel where residents are “tourists-in-their own hometown,” while practising the COVID-19 safety protocols as recommended by the B.C. Provincial Health Officer. Many B.C. parks are now open, and national parks were to open as of June 1.

(Check this website for current details on travel.)

Getting Here

Driving: Travel time from Vancouver to Rossland is about 7 hours and 14 minutes via BC-3 E & Crowsnest Hwy/BC-3 E. The distance is 617.6km (238 mi).
