Dreaming of visiting Victoria, the West Coast’s resort city?

August 1, 2022 //  by Jennifer Blyth

Victoria – British Columbia’s capital and ancestral home to the Lekwungen People – is a powerful combination of urban amenities and outdoor adventure that captivates visitors with its stunning ocean, mountains and forests.

The destination sits atop many bucket lists, yet once here, it’s often the locals’ friendliness that resonates.

Friendliness is also key to the longstanding success of a piece of the city’s history. Located along the Gorge Waterway, near the Inner Harbour, Robin Hood Inn and Suites has been operated by Rolf Ullrich and family since opening as the Robin Hood Motel in 1963.

Significant investments by the family’s second-generation prioritize features that ensure a vacation is memorable for all the right reasons. As such, the 55-unit inn and suites has earned nods as a 2020 Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best, Best Value in Canada 2021 and 2022 Traveller’s Choice, top 10 per cent of hotels worldwide.

Continually Focused on You

A commitment to guest experiences drives improvements that enhance every stay. Approaching its 60th anniversary, the property has renovated numerous guest spaces, and will continue this winter. Every room will sport its reshaped West Coast appearance by spring 2023.

Bathrooms are fully modernized, including shower surrounds dressed in large-scale images from the “Discovery Series” featuring iconic Vancouver Island scenes: Telegraph Cove, Cape Scott, Tofino and the forest at Fair Harbour. Even if you can’t get to these destinations, you’ll love the virtual experience.

Room options include: petite queen; full apartment suite; two bedroom-two bathroom adjoining rooms and more. The guest experience that begins at booking continues the entire stay, with luxurious Stearns & Foster mattresses, hypoallergenic bed linens and synthetic-down duvets and pillows.

Unofficial ambassadors of the West Coast’s resort city

Where will your adventures take you?

“Our 24-hour guest services team is available to arrange everything for your visit,” says General Manager Sam Kirsch. “We have become unofficial ambassadors and a gateway to Victoria. We offer more complimentary ways to discover the region than anyone.”

Guests begin their day with a delicious continental breakfast featuring freshly baked croissants, muffins, and breakfast pastries along with yoghurt, fresh fruit, fruit juice, freshly brewed Kona and barista coffees and more.

Then, through local partnerships the team has created, you can book (and save on) golf excursions, attractions like Victoria Butterfly Gardens, whale watching, forest bathing, and more. They’ll even arrange paragliding over picturesque Salt Spring Island, just a short ferry and free shuttle ride away. Or book a complimentary e-bike, kayak or paddleboard to discover the wonders of nature at your own pace.

“These are the things that mean so much to our guests,” says Pink Yu, Manager of Operations. “We are the gateway for visitors, and can provide the experience people dream of when exploring a city like Victoria.”

Getting here: The Robin Hood Inn and Suites is located a few minutes from downtown Victoria at 136 Gorge R.d East. Free shuttle service runs from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. between the hotel and: downtown, BC Ferries terminal at Swartz Bay (near Sidney) and Victoria International Airport. Those visiting by car will find free parking, plus EV and Tesla charging stations.

Getting around: In addition to e-bikes – a terrific way to explore this cycle-friendly city – Victoria Harbour Ferries docks nearby and stops at many popular attractions. Or, for $5, ride the local transit system all day with a stop right outside.
