Kimberley has earned an honourable mention in Ski Canada Magazine’s Winter 2024 The Best of Skiing Awards in the category of “Best Western Ski Towns.”
The other mentions were Rossland and Revelstoke, with Prince George listed as the winner.
“It is so awesome for our community to garner this recognition from SKI Canada Magazine, and it is very fitting as this place is so good at making winter fun,” said Christine Schultheis, general manager, Kimberley Alpine Resort.
“It has been so amazing for my family, the welcoming feel from everyone we have met, to being truly able to let my kids play in snow out the back door, and the amount of outdoor recreation opportunities here, and the keen people who are ready to go, trail run, fat bike, cross country ski and alpine ski – all in one day.”

Noting it hasn’t been too long since Kimberley won CBC’s Best Small Town in B.C. competition, “There must be good things happening in this place,” said “Powder” Matt Mosteller, senior vice president of Resorts of the Canadian Rockies.
“Kimberley has the biggest Nordic Club in Canada, has one of the few ski areas in the country that is in the municipal boundaries, and dedicated trails for fat biking and snowshoeing,” Mosteller said. “Kimberley is crazy in love with getting outside in winter.
“That tradition really matters, the old timers set the stage for the community to embrace winter, and this is vital to getting people outside, healthy and connected.”

Mosteller highlighted Kimberley Alpine Resort’s 1,800-acre ski area’s importance to the community, not only in providing recreation and snow sport lessons, but also an epicentre of numerous events throughout the year, including the historic North Star Days, Spring Splash and many more.
Kimberley has a long history as a ski town, producing FIS world champions such as Gerry Sorensen and Nordic skiing champions like Molly Miller, Colin Ferrie, Marielle Ackermann and Raleigh Tarte.
“We are proud of all who are involved in making this recognition possible, first a big ‘thank you’ to all who live here, City of Kimberley, Kimberley Chamber of Commerce, Tourism Kimberley and the Kimberley Bulletin who continue to share local stories and news,” Mosteller said.
