World-class talent is set to hit the stage this summer in a magical destination that blends together music, food, nature and history.
The Grist Mill and Gardens Historic Site launched its 40th anniversary season by announcing the first wave of performers for its much-loved Summer Concert Series. This year’s lineup consists of celebrated folk, roots and acoustic artists who will bring their unique sound and heartfelt performances to one of the intimate venues of the South Okanagan and Similkameen.
Set under the ancient horse chestnut trees in the heritage gardens, the first five shows will set the tone and shape Grist Mill’s vibrant season on the Summer Kitchen stage, as more concerts will be announced in the coming weeks.
“Our concerts are all about creating atmosphere,” says general manager Chris Mathieson, adding that for their 40th anniversary, they are going “bigger than ever.
“The historic gardens, the lanterns, the stars and the talent we bring together – it’s not just a show, it’s an experience.”
Linda McRae, a soulful multi-instrumentalist and former member of Spirit of the West, will open the series on June 13 with her musical blend of grit and grace.
Two of Canada’s most respected bluegrass musicians, Showman & Coole, will perform the following month on July 4, delivering their string work and powerful harmonies.
On Aug. 9, bluegrass powerhouse John Reischman & the Jaybirds will showcase their sophisticated arrangements and rich storytelling, led by Grammy-winning mandolist Reischman.
Tiller’s Folly will bring their West Coast Celtic roots to the stage on Aug. 22 with soulful songs that span centuries.
On Sept. 12, award-winning banjo virtuoso and slide guitarist Tony Furtado will fuse folk, blues and Americana into a memorable live experience.
Concerts begin at 7 p.m. and guests are encouraged to arrive early with a blanket or lawn chair. Food and drinks will be available at the on-site concession. All concerts are family-friendly.
