Amateur photographers up and down the West Coast have submitted their best work, and now West Coast Traveller is turning it over to you.

Voting is now open for the People’s Choice Awards in our annual Amateur Photographer of the Year contest!

Our judging panel selected their favourites from more than 22,000 entries, and narrowed down the competition to the top 100 finalists. Visit westcoasttraveller.com/peoples-choice-awards-2022-amateur-photographer to see the spectacular shots that made our Top 100, and cast your vote to help your favourite photo win.

Finalists are divided into six categories:

  • Scenic images taken in Canada
  • Wildlife and nature
  • West coast travel
  • People/portraits
  • Local gems
  • #InstaFavs

Khutzeymateen Grizzly Reserve, BC by Stephen Lustig is one of the finalists in the Wildlife and Nature category. Stephen Lustig/Amateur Photographer of the Year entry.

Black Press Media readers can vote in each category, once per hour per day per IP address. Not only will you be giving your favourite photographer a boost, you’ll also be entered into a random draw for a chance to win a $100 gift certificate to Save-on-Foods!

The People’s Choice winner will receive $500 to spend at London Drugs, one of the generous sponsors of the 2022 Amateur Photographer of the Year contest. The Fairmont Empress Victoria and Helijet also sponsored this year’s contest, and contributed fantastic prizes for the Grand Prize, First Place and Second Place winners.

Voting in the People’s Choice category is open until midnight on Sep. 28, 2022. All prizes and winners will be determined by Oct. 30, 2022.

Sarah Dessler’s photo is up for the People’s Choice award in the #InstaFavs category. Sarah Dessler/Amateur Photographer of the Year entry.

Choose your favourite

How will you select your favourite photographs?

Maybe you appreciate structured composition, or look for crisp focus and a creative use of light. Perhaps the best photo is one that captures a once-in-a-life-time moment, or shows a hard-to-reach location you’ve never seen before. The winning photo could be one that uses humour to tell an interesting story, or simply catches your eye.

The choice is yours! Cast your votes at westcoasttraveller.com/peoples-choice-awards-2022-amateur-photographer.
