Discover Chilliwack

Chilliwack is yours to discover.

Boasting stunning scenery to explore, Chilliwack has an endless supply of recreational activities, including hiking in the great outdoors with quick access to lakes, rivers, campgrounds and hiking trails. From the pastoral views of Harrison Lake to the furthest ends of Cultus Lake, fishing in the cascading Fraser or golfing below Mount Cheam’s peak, you’ll find something new to discover each day.

Beyond hiking, biking, boating and climbing, Chilliwack is known for its rich agricultural heritage – ideal for exploring with a circle farm tour.

Inspire your creative side with the many small, home-based businesses popping up in rural areas. Or indulge the kids with a fun-filled day of close-to-home attractions, from waterslides and mini-golf to bumper boats and adventure playgrounds at BC’s largest water park.

You could even take a quiet evening stroll along the banks of a river, reflecting on your adventures, then follow it up with dinner at a local restaurant or brewery, or compiled from your discoveries at area farm stands.

Fun Facts

  • Get the best 360-degree view of the Fraser Valley by hiking Mount Cheam.
  • Chilliwack has some of the most productive agricultural land in Canada.
  • Chilliwack is known for its locally grown corn.
  • The Book Man used bookstore is the second largest in BC.
  • Chilliwack is the third oldest municipality in BC.
  • Chilliwack gets its name from the Halq’eméylem word “Ts’elxwéyeqw” which means ‘as going as far as you can go upriver.’

Weather

Destination BC is developing a new campaign to promote hyper-local travel where residents are “tourists-in-their own hometown,” while practising the COVID-19 safety protocols as recommended by the B.C. Provincial Health Officer. Many B.C. parks are now open, and national parks were to open as of June 1.

(Check this website for current details on travel.)

Getting here

Vehicle: Chilliwack is easily accessible from the Trans-Canada Highway east and westbound. From Vancouver take Trans-Canada Hwy/BC-1 E to get to Chilliwack.

Flying: Abbotsford International Airport is about 32 minutes away and Vancouver International Airport is nearly two hours away.

Transit: Get to Chilliwack by bus with the Fraser Valley Express; other bus options include Rider Express and Ebus.
