As Canadians embrace the opportunity to explore the iconic destinations in their own backyard this summer, a federal government initiative is make it easier and more affordable than ever for families.
With the launch of the Canada Strong Pass, Canadians and visitors alike are invited to experience the natural beauty, rich history and diverse cultures that make this country truly special.
Running to Sept. 2, 2025, the Canada Strong Pass unlocks free and discounted access to some of Canada’s top attractions. Whether it’s wandering through ancient forests, learning about Indigenous history, discovering cutting-edge science exhibits or hopping on a VIA Rail train across the prairies, the pass is your ticket to a summer of connection, discovery and national pride.
So, what’s included?
For nature lovers and history buffs, Parks Canada is offering free admission to all national historic sites, national parks and national marine conservation areas, along with a 25 per cent discount on camping fees. That means you can wake up to sunrise over a glacial lake or fall asleep beneath the stars – without breaking the bank.
This includes iconic B.C. destinations such as Kootenay, Mount Revelstoke, Glacier, Yoho, Pacific Rim National Park Reserve and Gulf Islands National Park Reserve. You can also step back in time at Fort Langley, the Gulf of Georgia Cannery and Fort Rodd Hill and Fisgard Lighthouse.
Heading north? The pass covers all three Yukon national parks – Kluane, Ivvavik and Vuntut – along with any national historic sites in Yukon administered by Parks Canada.
And if Alberta is on your list, you can explore Banff, Jasper, Waterton Lakes, Elk Island and Wood Buffalo national parks without paying an entrance fee.
Museums are also stepping up.
In addition the national museums farther east, many provincial and territorial museums are also participating, including the Royal Tyrrell Museum in Drumheller – a must for dinosaur fans! – the Reynolds Museum in Wetaskiwin and Head-Smashed-in Buffalo Jump.
Heading to the British Columbia capital? The Royal BC Museum beside Victoria’s Inner Harbour is a must-see attraction for visitors and locals alike. To the north, experience the Yukon Beringia Interpretive Centre in Whitehorse.
Getting there is part of the experience too. With VIA Rail, young children ride free when accompanied by an adult, and young adults can take advantage of a 25 per cent discount on fares – making it easier to explore new regions, revisit familiar favourites, or just take in the views from the train.
And best of all? No registration or physical pass is needed. Just show up at participating sites, and you’re in.
Canadian Heritage Minister Steven Guilbeault puts it simply: “Our Canada Strong Pass aims to make it even easier for families to choose Canada – to discover the beauty of our country, connect with nature, and enjoy our culture all summer long.”
With more than 200 Parks Canada sites, a vast network of national and regional museums and an accessible, family-friendly rail service, the Canada Strong Pass is more than a summer discount – it’s an invitation to deepen our connection with this country and each other.
