Adventure awaits Vancouver Island winners of West Coast Traveller’s CanaDream RV contest

As American author, businessman and speaker, Stephen Covey once said, “live your life by a compass, not a clock.”

This rings true for Vancouver Island resident, Yvonne Martin and her partner, Peter.

A self-described scenic drive enthusiast, Yvonne says travel has always been near and dear to her heart– past adventures include hiking trips through Patagonia, Argentina and Chile in 2019, and kayaking on lake Argentina at the Perito Moreno Glacier.

After having their travel curtailed during the pandemic, and with Yvonne and her partner now nearing retirement, Yvonne says the news of West Coast Traveller’s CanaDream RV contest win couldn’t have come at a better time!

As the winners of the five-night CanaDream RV prize package valued at $4,425, the Victoria, B.C., couple will have their choice of an RV rental, such as a Truck Camper, Super Van Camper, Midi Motorhome, Compact Motorhome, Maxi Motorhome or Maxi Plus Motorhome.

“It’s quite exciting but I must say I’m quite nervous. This will be the first time we’ve explored in a motorhome. This will be fun and new for us! We’ve sat down recently and started to put our minds to where we should go. There are so many options.”

As contest winners, the B.C. couple can pick up their RV in a Canadian city of their choice, including: Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Montreal or Halifax, then start exploring.

With much of the country now at their fingertips, Yvonne says an opportunity like this has helped them appreciate the love they have for their home province.

“Most of the time we have flown somewhere and done some travelling in other countries but I have to say, there certainly is enough to see in B.C.”

As it stands, Yvonne and Peter have their eyes set on beloved West Coast destinations such as Whistler, Pemberton or Osoyoos.

With the warmer months just weeks away and brighter days on the horizon, Yvonne says the recent news reminds them of the importance of the little things we often take for granted such as nature and good company.

“Opportunities like this just help us realize how blessed we are to have the health and good fortune to be able to sit back and unwind while taking in the nature around us. Everybody is always so busy with their day-to-day lives that it is a totally different feeling when you are out there sitting on a mountain top enjoying nature.”
