If your goal is to visit a charming mountain town, then Fernie is your place to go.

Located in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, in southeast British Columbia, this historic mountain town is a stunning destination no matter what the season.

The mountain ranges offer year-round adventure, with forest-covered trails, skiing, snowshoeing and mountain biking.

Stunning nearby lakes offer activities including kayaking, water rafting and much more.

Downtown, enjoy local craft beer and local art, with many art galleries and fairs.

Visit Fernie Alpine Resort, Mount Fernie Provincial Park, Fernie Museum and Fairy Creek Falls.

Facts:

  • Fernie is the only city in BC that is completely surrounded by the Canadian Rockies.
  • Fernie is the largest and longest-established community between Cranbrook and Lethbridge
  • The city’s history is centred around coal mining
  • Fernie gets more than nine metres (30 ft) of snow annually

Climate

Fernie has four distinct seasons, and enjoys temperate mountain weather and significant rainfall.

FERNIE WEATHER

Destination BC is developing a new campaign to promote hyper-local travel where residents are “tourists-in-their own hometown,” while practising the COVID-19 safety protocols as recommended by the B.C. Provincial Health Officer. Many B.C. parks are now open, and national parks were to open as of June 1.

(Check this website for current details on travel.)
